Write and photograph for us
Quockerwodger Media is an independent, ad-free outlet documenting Vancouver's live-music scene: the shows, the rooms, and the people who make them happen, from basement gigs to the big rooms. Everything we publish is shot and written by a small team of contributors who are out at shows because they want to be. The contributor portal is invite-only, and this page is how you get invited.
Every new contributor writes a publishable full review and files a usable edited photo set from the same approved local show. The trial is unpaid. We put your name on the guest list for that bill.
What contributing gets you
This is the machinery your work plugs into once you are on the roster, all of it live today:
- Published bylines and photo galleries. Your shows run as full reviews and galleries under your name, in a permanent archive that doesn't disappear when a feed scrolls past.
- Your own portfolio page. Every contributor with published work gets a page on our photographers & writers index: cover mosaic, bio, socials, venues shot, the lot. It's a link you can put on anything.
- Private delivery galleries. Hand the bands you shoot a clean, private link to their photos, straight from the portal. Artists remember the photographer who actually delivered.
- Photo-pass support. The portal carries accreditation details for the venues and promoters we cover, and a request flow for every show: we can send the pass request for you, or you handle the contact yourself with our info behind you. Step-by-step help guides included.
What we expect
Honest terms, up front: we're a small editorial team, and contributing is unpaid right now. You keep full copyright to your work and unconditional portfolio rights. That's in the contributor agreement you sign in the portal, in plain language.
Commitments are real commitments. When you request a show and we confirm it, we're counting on the gallery or the copy. Life happens and we get it, but a pattern of claimed-and-missed shows is the one thing that ends the arrangement.
Passes run through the portal. Nobody approaches a promoter in Quockerwodger's name before the show is requested in the portal. Whether we send the pass request or you do, the record stays straight.
Who we're looking for
People already out at shows in Metro Vancouver, or itching to be, who can write a full review and edit a concert set. We cover the whole spread: punk, metal, indie, hip-hop, electronic, folk, and everything between, in rooms from DIY spaces and 150-cap clubs up to the arenas. Small-room regulars are especially welcome. Recent live-music work that shows you can hold a room's energy is enough, plus the reliability to follow through.
How to apply
No forms, no accounts: send us an email. Include three links to your work (portfolio, Instagram, published clips, whatever shows it best) and tell us which rooms and genres you haunt. The button below opens a draft with the template filled in:
