On June 13, 2025, I dropped by “Take Your Time Back”, a no-working indie/DIY space tucked away at 648 Kingsway in Vancouver. Known for bleeding-edge punk shows, book clubs, and underground art nights, the venue’s art plastered walls and arcade machines set the mood for a raw authentic experience.
You enter through a nondescript back door, pay at the counter ($20 or PWYC—pay what you can), and immediately find yourself up close to the stage. The hole-in-the-wall layout forces you to be right in the action, making every riff and beat feel visceral.
- Four local bands took the stage, each bringing its own flavor to the night:

- Great Shame (@greatshamemusic)
A high-energy grunge-punk rock trio whose first set exploded into life and had the crowd moshing from the opening chord.

- Ivan and the Taxevaders (@ivan.and.thetaxevaders)
This fresh, young indie trio delivered tight grooves and catchy hooks, weaving playful melodies with just enough edge to keep things interesting.

Post Session Burnout
A five-piece emotional pop outfit, this was their second-last show—and what a pleasure it was to witness their heartfelt anthems live, each song building on the last.Fuzzyslug (@fuzzyslug_)
Unfortunately, I had to head out before their set—but word on the street is that their fuzz-laden, rock noise took the room to another level.
