The Station That Throws a Block Party
CiTR is the long-running campus and community radio station based out of UBC, an independent, listener-built operation that has shaped Vancouver's airwaves for decades. Its programming runs wide and local, and that ear for the city's underground carries off the airwaves and onto the street.
The clearest example is the Victory Square Block Party, the free, all-ages outdoor showcase CiTR organizes. The downtown street party is built around local and independent acts, a bill stacked with bands that rarely play arenas.
What That Means for Coverage
A CiTR event is an independent, community-run affair, so access leans on relationships rather than a corporate credential portal. The outdoor street setting means daylight and open sightlines as often as a dark club, and the pace is loose, with quick changeovers and a crowd that is part of the frame.
