The Long Haul West
Modified Ghost is the Vancouver promoter that books metal and hardcore across Western Canada, carrying international touring acts that would otherwise skip the region. Its home base is the Rickshaw Theatre in the Downtown Eastside. The routing runs wider than that: tours thread down to Studio 919 in Victoria and east to the Blue Grotto in Kamloops, a BC-wide circuit few independents attempt. Once a year the operation scales up into the Modified Ghost Festival, a four-day extreme-metal marathon.
What That Means for Coverage
These are dark, loud, fast rooms. There is no soundboard riser and no press office. The standard first-three-songs courtesy applies, the lighting leans toward hard backlight and heavy red and amber, and the pit doubles as part of the crowd. The festival days run multiple sets with tight changeovers, and photographers should review the schedule before arriving.
