Island Roots, BC-Wide Reach
The Victoria Ska & Reggae Society is the Vancouver Island organization behind the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival, which keeps ska, reggae, and dub moving through the region. The festival is its home base, and the booking extends past the Island. Society-presented shows turn up at the Rickshaw Theatre and other Vancouver rooms, so the name lands on the mainland calendar more often than the "Victoria" in the title suggests.
What That Means for Coverage
A Society show serves its genre: horn sections, big bands, and a dance-floor crowd in constant motion. Stages run warm and busy with a lot of bodies moving, which suits fast glass in low, shifting light. The usual first-three-songs courtesy applies. Festival days carry multiple sets and tight changeovers, which photographers should map in advance.
