Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a ticketed classical Chinese garden and registered museum in Vancouver's Chinatown. It was built in 1985 and 1986 on City-owned land, with craftsmen from Suzhou, China, working alongside local designers, and is described by the Garden and the City as the first full-scale classical Chinese garden built outside China. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society of Vancouver, a non-profit charity, runs it under an agreement with the Park Board.
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park shares the block and was designed together with the Garden. The park is a free public park managed by the Vancouver Park Board. The Garden charges admission, and this page covers the Garden.
The Garden presents cultural programming that includes concerts, festivals and exhibitions alongside tours and education. Most of its rooms are unheated; the Hall of One Hundred Rivers is the exception and hosts some of its ticketed music events.
Visitors who use visual or auditory aids can ask staff about added services on arrival. The Garden's group FAQ describes its halls and walkways as wheelchair friendly.
