The "Funktion-One" Advantage
Fortune is built around a bespoke Funktion-One sound system, the only official installation of its kind in the region. The "Point Source" design keeps stereo imaging tight and holds clarity at high volume, which is the whole reason the room was built around it.
Tastemaker Status
Fortune trades on its small footprint, booking touring acts into a 450-person room well below the size they could otherwise fill. The club has drawn famous names off the clock as much as on the bill: Jay-Z and Drake turned up at afterparties and visits in 2010, and Drake made a surprise drop-in in 2018. (Drake's Vancouver date with Travis Scott was across town at Rogers Arena, not here.)
Heritage & Vibe
The venue sits in the historic 1921 Ming's Building, designed by W.H. Chow, and runs on what the founders call an "Anti-Club" ethos. The door leans toward streetwear and an art-forward crowd, a sensibility tied to the founders' connection to the Livestock brand.
Key Residencies
Two long-running weekly nights anchor the calendar:
- Midnight Mondays: An R&B night that doubles as a networking hub for local creatives.
- Happy Ending Fridays: A streetwear and art-forward event that often pairs pop-ups and gallery installations with DJ sets.
