Originally opened in 1935, the Hollywood is a rare surviving example of Streamline Moderne architecture. It reopened in 2020 after a restoration funded through a 2018 Heritage Revitalization Agreement with the City of Vancouver, which transferred development density to an adjacent lot. That added density built the 40-unit Hollywood Residences next door, completed in 2022.
Technical & Cultural Specs
Filling the city's "missing middle" between small clubs and large theatres, the venue features a fully removable floor to toggle between standing and seated configurations. It is equipped with a tour-grade d&b audiotechnik V-Series sound system and a 10,000-lumen Barco laser projector, enough to handle larger touring productions.
Community Mandate
The venue operates with a community-access commitment rooted in the 2018 heritage agreement, giving local non-profits and film festivals continued access to the theatre at affordable, community rates. The Dayhu Group acquired the building in 2025.
