Village Studios

Downstairs at 1022 Davie

Village Studios is the event space and creative studio in the lower level of the building that also holds Celebrities Nightclub. Its own about page says it is owned and run by This Is Blueprint, and gives the building's addresses as 1022 and 1024 Davie Street, with Celebrities upstairs and Village Studios downstairs.

A Century of Dancing

The building was designed by Thomas Hooper. Village Studios dates it to 1908, and the city's Places That Matter plaque gives 1911 for the Lester Dancing Academy that opened there. It became the Embassy Ballroom in the 1940s, then the rock clubs Dante's Inferno and the Retinal Circus in the 1960s. Celebrities took over the main floor in 1982. The lower floor was relaunched as Celebrities Underground in 2016 for Seasons Festival events, then gained a recording studio and work space and took the Village Studios name in 2021.

The Room

The rental page lists seating for 100 in five rows of 20, with more seats possible depending on sight lines. It gives no standing capacity. The sound is a Funktion One system, and the lighting rig includes moving heads, strobes and a mappable LED ceiling run from ChamSys and Resolume. Most listed nights are club shows and DJ sets starting at 10 or 11 p.m. The space also rents for talks, workshops, listening parties and recording.
