José González brings "Against the Dying of the Light" to life
In the heart of downtown Vancouver, under the grandiose ambiance of the Orpheum theatre, José González took the stage on Tuesday night in his classic style, with only the company of his guitar.
During his almost 2 hour long set, González indulged the audience in a journey through his different eras, smoothly transitioning between fan favorites such as "Stay Alive", and numbers from his fifth studio album "Against the Dying of the Light", released in March this year.
In his fourth and final stop in Canada for this tour, the Swedish indie folk singer, composer and guitarist explored the human nature in his three languages, with songs varying between English, Spanish and Swedish. He engaged casually with his audience, creating a serene, laid-back atmosphere.
Orpheum only magnified the calm expelled by González; with its tall overlapping arches and stunning ceiling mural and chandelier, you could almost feel the room breathe deep with the singer. The audience remained silent, almost in a dream state, throughout the show. People closed their eyes, leaned into their companions or simply took in the entrancing light show that flowed naturally with the music.
People left Orpheum on Tuesday night buzzing with that sweet energy only experiencing live music among others can bring, and already hoping José González makes it back to the West Coast as soon as possible.
